Swinging Into The Season

(EDMONTON, AB) This weekend, Concordia University of Edmonton hosted the golf season opener, North Regionals. Set in the picturesque mountain-like terrain of the Edmonton river valley at Jagare Ridge Golf Course, the golfers were teed up and ready for an exciting challenge.

On day one, Concordia Thunder’s Ella Gifford took the lead on the women’s side finishing with a score of 86. Following closely behind was the Portage Voyageurs’ Lyric Lewis only 4 strokes behind at 90. Medicine Hat Rattlers’ Libby finds herself on the leaderboard in third place at 94.

The men’s team results were led by Michael Valk (MHC) with an outstanding score of 68, landing himself three under par. Finishing in second place was Mason Gorski (NAIT) with just one over par, at 72. Trey Smith of the SAIT Trojans claimed the third spot on top, finishing closely behind at 74.

Day two of North Regionals took place on another sunny day at 25 degrees. On the women’s side, Ella Gifford (CUE) continued her hot streak and was able to improve on her day one score by 8 strokes taking the first-place position with a score of 78. Libby Bourassa followed suit and improved her score by 11 strokes, taking the second-place position on day two at 83. Only one stroke behind was Lyric Lewis (PC), finishing day two with a score of 84.

On the men’s side, Jaden Patel (SAIT) took the first spot on the leaderboard with a score of 74. In second place, Michael Valk (MHC), finishing only a stroke behind at 75. In third place, Jake Magee (SAIT) with a score of 77.

In the mixed-team event, the MHC Rattlers took the first-place position, following only 6 strokes behind the SAIT Trojans, and in third place the Concordia Thunder.
