Thunder Win 3 of 5 Events at Badminton Tournament #2

EDMONTON, AB – JAN 14, 2018

After almost two months since ACAC badminton tournament #1, the Thunder badminton team was back at it as NAIT hosted the second tournament of the season on Sunday.

In the team event, Concordia finished 2nd overall with 131 points only behind the host NAIT Ooks who finished with 183 points. The Kings Eagles would finish in third with 114 points.

On the individual portion of the tournament, the Thunder stole the show winning three of the five events including women’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

In the women’s singles event, Takeisha Wang was able to keep her perfect season going as she would finish the tournament 3-0 claiming the women’s singles title 21-18, 21-18 over Eyota Kwan of NAIT. Thunders Kassidy Turcotte would finish the tournament in 5th place (3-1) and Kennedy Turcotte 7th place (2-1).

Jordan Tao was the only entry for the Thunder in the men’s singles event and he had a great day finishing in 5th place with a record of 3-1.

In the men’s doubles event, Desmond Wang paired up with Nicolas Pittman and would go undefeated (3-0) to claim the men’s doubles title by defeating Jeffry Ko and Ronuelle Mendin of NAIT. Teammates Raphael Wong and Braxton Wong were another strong pairing for the Thunder and finished in 5th place with a record of 2-1.

In women’s doubles action, Kaylee Morris and Kassidy Turcotte were the only entry for the Thunder where they would go 1-1 finishing in 3rd place.

Lastly, the dynamic sibling duo of Takeisha Wang and Desmond Wang joined forces once again to reclaim the mixed doubles title by defeating Jeffery Ko and Connie Juang of NAIT (21-14, 21-15). As mixed doubles partners Takeisha and Desmond are now 6-0. Concordia’s second entry in the mixed doubles event was the pairing of Kaylee Morris and Braxton Wong who finished 4th with a record of 1-2.

The next ACAC tournament will take place on February 3, 2019 at Olds College.
