Visiting MacEwan take down the Thunder 5-2

EDMONTON, AB - The Griffins came out swinging contributing over 10 shots and 3 goals in the first 8 minutes of play. It seemed as though the ice was slanted towards the Thunders end until a quick break play sent #9 Matt Benko streaking into the Griffins end and put Concordia on the board at the 9 minute mark. The goal seemed to give the Thunder a burst of energy and scored their second a few minutes later cutting the lead to one. As the first period was coming to an end, a tussel out front of the home teams net sent 4 Thunder players to the box and 3 Griffin players, giving the Griffins a chance to pull away and apply the pressure. The Thunder killed off the penalty allowing only one shot on goal and even had a scoring opportunity themselves.

In the second period, the speed and aggresiveness continued and by the end of the second there was a combined 34 minutes of penalties between the two teams. A lot of PowerPlay opportunities for both teams, but neither were able to capitalize, ending the second the same way they entered, 3-2 for the Griffins.

The Griffins #13 Jacob Schofield opened up the scoring in the 3rd period, extending their lead 4-2 with just under 13 minutes left to play. An early goalie pull gave the Thunder what seemed like endless opportunities late in the 3rd, but #1 Marc-Olivier Daigle from MacEwan was able to keep the door shut and walk away with the win. An empty net goal would be added for the Griffins, finishing this game 5-2.
