McLaughlin Steps Down As Thunder Men’s Volleyball Coach

Edmonton, AB (March 2, 2023) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder men's volleyball team regretfully announce the resignation of Ken McLaughlin as Head Coach of the Thunder Men's Volleyball program.

McLaughlin was originally named head coach head coach on July 26, 2021. In his two seasons in charge, McLaughlin brought in both the largest and strongest recruiting class in Thunder Men's Volleyball program history. This past season, under McLaughlin's guidance, the Thunder made their second ever playoff appearance, and rookie setter Rhees Moss picked up the first ACAC Rookie of the Year award in program history.

Speaking on the departure of McLaughlin, Director of Athletics & Recreation Nate MacLellan commented "Coach McLaughlin was an outstanding leader and mentor for our men's volleyball program here at Concordia. He did a remarkable job leading the players coming out of the lost COVID season and picking up the pieces to ensure the team was competitive and ready to go for our return to play. During his time here, he made sure the program continued to trend in the right direction, and you can see that in the playoff appearance this year. Coach McLaughlin did a phenomenal job recruiting and setting the groundwork for the program to have success in the future. Coach McLaughlin will be missed, and we wish him nothing but the best in the future."

The search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Any potential recruits should reach out to the Athletics Department: athletics@concordia.ab.ca, and are encouraged to fill out the Thunder Recruit Me page here.
