Bio

Matt Norminton was appointed as the head coach for the Concordia Thunder cross country and indoor track teams in 2009. In 1997, Coach Norminton was himself an ACAC individual and team XC silver medalist before going on to be a U-Sports individual team and XC silver medalist in 2000 and indoor track 4x800m Canada West and USports National champion. Coach Norminton was also a member of the 2001 USports national indoor track team. After finishing his collegiate career, Coach Norminton lived and competed in Europe for five years before returning to Canada. In 2007, Coach Norminton finished 2nd at the national marathon championships in Ottawa.

Since he began coaching the Thunder, Coach Norminton has helped his teams to several top three finishes at the ACAC XC Championships including: 2014 Men 1st place, 2015 Women 2nd place, 2015 Men 2nd place, 2016 Women 3rd place, 2018 Women 3rd place. His teams have finished in the top six at the national CCAA XC championships on two occasions: 2015 Women 4th place, 2015 Men 6th place. On the track, his teams have finished in the top three at the ACAC championships including: 2014 Men 3rd place, 2015 Men 2nd place, 2016 Women 3rd place, 2016 Men 1st place, 2019 Women 3rd place.
 
The Thunder have also had several individual ACAC XC championships medalists under Coach Norminton including: Marriya Jenkins (Silver 2011, Gold 2012, Bronze 2014, Silver 2015), Kirk Sundt (Silver 2015), Leonard Chesoo (Silver 2018, Gold 2019). At the national CCAA XC championships both Marriya Jenkins (Silver 2012, Bronze 2013) and Leonard Chesoo (Silver 2018, Gold 2019) have picked up individual medals. On the track, his athletes have also picked up a lot of ACAC individual and relay medals. Coach Norminton has been named the ACAC Indoor Track Coach of the Year twice, in the 2015-16 and 2018-19 seasons.
 
In addition to coaching the Thunder, Coach Norminton also heads up the Running Room Athletic Club in the local community where he has coached several national individual medalists and team XC medalists.
