CUE Women’s Volleyball Suffers Setback Against U of A-Augustana: 3-1 Defeat

(EDMONTON, AB) In the final home game of the season, the Concordia Thunder Women's Volleyball team faced a tough battle against the University of Alberta-Augustana, resulting in a 3-1 defeat. Despite a spirited effort on Senior's Night, the Thunder fell short in a closely contested match.

The game unfolded with both teams displaying impressive skills in kills, serving, and blocking. However, U of A-Augustana managed to secure the first set with a score of 25-15. The Thunder responded emphatically in the second set, seizing control and winning 26-24. The third set witnessed intense back-and-forth action, with U of A-Augustana eventually edging ahead to claim a 25-22 victory. In the fourth set, the Thunder fought relentlessly, but U of A-Augustana secured the win with a 25-23 score.

The Thunder's Renae Regal showcased excellent playmaking skills, contributing 22 assists to her team. Jolene Cooke and Emma Thompson delivered powerful performances, registering 7 and 6 kills, respectively. Sydney Horyn's exceptional serving added three aces to the Thunder's efforts. Despite the formidable display, U of A-Augustana's Shae Boyes stood out with an impressive 27 points, steering her team to victory.

The Concordia Thunder Women's Volleyball team will face their next challenge on the road against Medicine Hat College on February 9th. With this result, the Thunder's current record stands at 6-10, sitting just outside of a playoff spot.
