2018-19 Thunder XC Season Underway

Edmonton, AB – The 2018 ACAC Cross Country Running season kicked off on Saturday September 8, 2017 with the first Grand Prix series race, sponsored by the Running Room, hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder.

The slight overcast, 10-15 degree weather proved to be a worthy challenge to just over 60 student-athletes competing in the first race of the season. The course featured a 3km loop and a 2km loop containing a mixture of hard packed gravel, grass and dirt trails. 4 races were ran this morning/afternoon, a 2km and 4km race for younger runners or those looking for a shorter race, a 6km race for the women and an 8km race for the men.

Your Concordia Thunder sent 8 student-athletes to race wearing the gold and blue. The women opened up the competition with a 6KM race and Bailey Troccoli-Hughes finished in the top 10 with a time of 27:25, Mienna Staroslieski finished a few minutes behind Bailey with a time of 29:11 and Madison Masterson finished her 6km run with a time of 34:35.

The men faced some stiff competition and unfortunately was seconds behind a top 10 finish. Keith Spruyt lead the Thunder with a time of 31:18, followed by Ian Novakowski, Brad Agnew, Alex Bedard and Frazer Connelly.

All of our student-athletes represented Concordia well at our first Concordia hosted event of the 2918/2019 Cross country season. We're looking forward to the season, and getting ready to add a few more trophies to our collection!
