Chesoo Cracks the Podium in Grand Prix #2

CALGARY, AB - SEPT 14, 2018

On Saturday morning six members of the Thunder Cross Country Running team traveled to St. Mary's University in Calgary, AB to compete in the Running Room Grand Prix #2.

The rainy overcast conditions added another element to the 2km loop course that took place on the St. Mary's University campus.

For the men's 8km race, SAIT's Matt Travanglini controlled the pace posting an incredible time of 25:31 to put him on top of the podium. New Thunder recruit, Leonard Chesoo, made his ACAC debut in the Thunder blue and gold. The first year Kenyan posted a time of 26:29 which would be good enough for third place!

The women's 6km race was a tight battle all the way to the finish line. Only 34 seconds separated the first place runner from the fourth place runner. Sophia Nowicki of Lethbridge College crossed the finish line first with a time of 22:33. The Thunder only sent four female runners to compete in this tune up, leading the way was Elise Nawrocki (15th) who cracked the top 20 with a time of 24:46 followed by Bailey Troccoli-Hughes (22nd), Rebekka Hay (36th) and Madison Masterson (40th).

The Thunder are planning on sending the full team to compete in the Running Room Grand Prix #3 which will take place this Saturday (September 22nd, 2018) in Grand Prairie, AB.
