Concordia Runners Find the Podium at ACAC Championships

EDMONTON, AB - OCT 29, 2018

The Concordia Thunder cross country running teams had a great weekend of competition in Vermillion, AB for the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships hosted by Lakeland College. The weekend kicked off on Friday night with an awards banquet for the athletes where the ACAC All-Conference teams were announced. Leonard Chesoo and Elise Nawrocki were named ACAC All-Conference runners! 

For the women's 6km race, Sophia Nowicki of Lethbridge College won the gold medal by running a time of 23:53. Elise Nawrocki set the pace for the Thunder finishing in 5th place with an impressive time of 25:08. Behind Elise was Bailey Troccoli-Hughes (26:43) and Ana Zulic (27:25) who were able to crack the top 15. The women's team that consist of Elise Nawrocki, Bailey Troccoli-Hughes, Ana Zulic, Rebekka Hay, Mienna Staroslieski, and Mataya Baldwain finshed 3rd overall as a team claiming the Bronze medal. The women's team has qualified for the CCAA National Cross Country Championships taking place on November 9-10, 2018 at Seneca College in Toronto, ON. Best of luck ladies!

For the men's 8km race, Thunder Leonard Chesoo was in a close battle with Matt Travaglini of SAIT for most of the race. Matt managed to pull away to take the gold medal with a time of 25:26. Leonard claimed the silver medal with a time of 25:46. Keith Spruyt also had a great race for the Thunder as he finished in 16th place with a time of 30:28. The men's team that consist of Leonard, Keith, Brandon Morris, Ian Novakowski, Brad Agnew, and Jackdon Murrell, and Frazer Connelly finished in 5th place as a team. Only Leonard Chesoo will be representing Concordia from the men's team at the CCAA National Cross Country Championships in Toronto.
