Leonard Chesoo Honored as 2021-22 ACAC Runner of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (November 2, 2021) - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Leonard Chesoo of Concordia University of Edmonton has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Men's Runner of the Year. 

Appearing in four races this season, Chesoo defended his ACAC Conference and CCAA National Championships from 2019 by winning the men's individual gold medal in all of the races, winning by an average of 1:14 seconds. Through his dominance this season, Chesoo has now won nine straight ACAC events over two years, 11 of 15 events over three years, and finished in the top three in 15 straight ACAC events. 

Interim Director of Athletics & Recreation, Nathaniel MacLellan, is extremely proud of everything the third-year runner has accomplished this season, stating, "Leonard has been phenomenal during his 3 seasons at CUE, and this post-Covid season was no exception as he was dominant across the ACAC. He will be leaving a legacy as one of the all-time greatest runners in the ACAC and CCAA as he goes after his 2nd straight CCAA National Championship. Leonard is very deserving of this prestigious award and his Thunder family will be rooting for him at the upcoming CCAA National Championships in Calgary! Congratulations Leonard!"

In his third season at Concordia, Leonard has appeared in 15 races at the ACAC level for the Thunder, and qualified for the CCAA Cross-Country National Championship in all three seasons. Coming to Concordia by way of Iten, Kenya – Leonard is in the fourth year of his Bachelor of Science degree.
