EDMONTON, AB (November 2, 2021) - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Morgan Spruyt ofConcordia University of Edmonton has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Cross Country Women's Rookie of the Year

Competing in three races this year, Spruyt had a strong showing for the Thunder this year. Finishing 6th at Grand Prix #2, 8th at Grand Prix #3, and 6th at the ACAC Championships in Camrose – she helped contribute to the Thunder finishing first place in the women's team event at all three races. Spruyt proved an integral piece to the Thunder women's Cross-Country team as they captured the program's first ever Women's Team Conference Championship in Cross-Country by winning the team event at the ACAC Championship.

The future of the Thunder women's running program is looking bright, and Interim Director of Athletics & Recreation, Nathaniel MacLellan, is looking forward to seeing the first-year runner progress throughout her career at Concordia, stating, "Morgan has been a huge addition to the Thunder running program. To come in as a first year and finish in the top 10 at all three events this season is outstanding! Morgan played a huge role in helping her team capture the ACAC Women's Team championship and will go down in the Thunder history books. I am looking forward to watching Morgan grow as a student-athlete throughout her time here at Concordia. Congratulations Morgan and best of luck at the upcoming CCAA National Championships.

In her first year of competing for Concordia, Spruyt is working towards her Bachelor of Science degree.
