The Wolves Down the Thunder in Late Minute Heroics

The Wolves Down the Thunder in Late Minute Heroics

Despite the windy conditions in Edmonton, Saturday afternoon featured a close battle between the Concordia Thunder and the Grand Prairie Wolves. The Thunder were looking for a strong performance as they were hoping to bounce back after a heartbreaking loss to NAIT however the Wolves were no easy task as they took Concordia by surprise defeating them 2-1.

The first half was a stalemate as neither team could find the back of the net with numerous chances on both ends. The match didn't see its first goal until the 49th minute when #15 Bryanna Niehaus netted an excellent cross from #13 Brynn DeVries to give the Thunder the 1-0 lead.

The Wolves managed to respond quickly with a goal in the 56th minute from #10 Ashtyn Haycock to tie it up. It wasn't until the 88th minute that the tie was broken by #4 Shelby Henley for the Wolves to take the late lead 2-1.

Concordia provided a last minute push in extra time however was unable to even things up as the Wolves hung on for the 2-1 victory. The Wolves now sit tied for 1st in the north with a 6-0-0 record and the Thunder now fall to 3rd with a 5-2-0 record.
