Thunder Women Take Down Trojans to Earn ACAC Bronze

OLDS- The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder dominated the SAIT Trojans on Sunday afternoon at Normie Kwong Field, defeated the top seed from the south division 4-2 to claim the bronze medal at the 2017 North Star Sports ACAC Women's Soccer Championship.

The Thunder received scoring from four different players on Sunday afternoon, as Kaitlyn Diduck, Jaida Stasiuk, Bryanne Niehaus, and Emily Samycia all scored.

The Thunder got off to a hot start just over 13 minutes into the game. On the left side of the net, Madison Kindzierski threaded the needle to get a pass through to Kaitlyn Diduck. Diduck struck the ball immediately, giving Amy Offredi no chance to react in time, as the Thunder took an early 1-0 lead.

Just before the expiration of the first half, Jaida Stasiuk managed to extend her team's lead to two after a scramble in front lead to a wide open shot from Stasiuk. The Wolves' striker knocked a roller into the back of the net for one of her easiest goals of the year.

After three straight turnovers by Trojan defenders, Bryanne Niehaus received a pass from Jill Sander early in the second half and found herself in alone against Offredi. Niehaus calmly beat the keeper, giving her team an insurance marker, going up 3-0.

The team's would exchange goals to make the score 4-1 before Cheyanne Holland got the Trojans within two with a nice strike in the 90th minute. Unfortunately for SAIT it was too little, too late as the Concordia Thunder were able to celebrate their bronze medal victory.
