Camrose, AB – The home opener for the University of Alberta Augustana Campus' 2018-19 Soccer Season saw the Vikings take on the Concordia Thunder on a drizzly afternoon in Camrose, Alberta. The Concordia Thunder dominated, leading 3-0 at the half and progressing to a game final 6-0 win.
Led by Concordia Bachelor of Arts student, Rebecca Leavell, with five goals and one assist, the 2nd year Striker from Stony Plain, Alberta was also named Player of the Game for the Thunder. Fourth year Goalkeeper, Selina Verkland, recorded 6 saves, while second year Striker, Kyra Robinson also scored one goal and one assist to help with the win.
Although Augustana's young team struggled with some first game jitters, Goalkeeper and dual-sport athlete, Cari Kilmartin was strong in net for the Vikings. Kilmartin, a second-year History major, faced 22 shots on goal. Augustana's second-year midfielder and Physical Education student, Jessica LaLonde, was named Player of the Game for the Vikings.
