Battle of Edmonton Ends in a Stalemate

Battle of Edmonton Ends in a Stalemate

Edmonton AB - Sept 29, 2018

On Saturday afternoon the King's Eagles and Concordia Thunder faced off at Clareview Field in winter like conditions. The city rivals battled hard against each other for 90 minutes knowing every point matters with the season winding down, however a winner was unable to be determined as it ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Eagles came out strong in the first half controlling the play in the offensive zone. #13 Gabriella Rocque (TKU) was able to find the back of the net first coming off a breakaway from #10 Hailey Maskell(TKU) in the 22nd minute. Thunder goalie Selina Verkland was able to keep her composure and stop the 6 shots she faced in the 1st half. #5 Paige Martin(CUE) was awarded a free kick in the 48th minute and made no mistake to tie the game up before the half.

The Eagles once again had a great start to the half as #13 Gabriella Rocque(TKU) netted her 2nd goal of the match in the 58th minute to take the lead. The Thunder responded well by producing offensive pressure and forcing keeper #22 Hannah Kui(TKU) to make 10 saves. The equalizer came in the 61st minute from #4 Sara Hrywkiw(CUE) off a breakaway pass from keeper Selina Verkland

With the both teams splitting the points from this game, the Eagles remain 1 point up on the Thunder for 2nd place in the North. The Thunder will finish off the weekend with a game tomorrow afternoon against the Augustana Vikings at 1:00PM (Clareview Field). The Eagles are back in action Wednesday evening for a re-scheduled match against the Augustana Vikings.
