Thunder Women’s Soccer Close Out Home Schedule With Big Win Over Wolves

Thunder Women’s Soccer Close Out Home Schedule With Big Win Over Wolves

EDMONTON, AB – The CUE Thunder Women's Soccer team (10-1-0) said goodbye to one of their graduating players as they closed out their home season schedule against the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves (5-4-2).

5th year Thunder standout Gabby Bayne played in her 59th game wearing the blue and gold today as she walked off the field in the 72nd minute. Bayne played in every league game of her career at Concordia until mid way this season due to an injury, including a streak of 46 straight regular season matches. Bayne will graduate with a Bachelor of Management degree at the end of the fall semester.

The Thunder wasted little time in their final home game of the regular season by hitting the scoreboard for two quick goals in the first half (#10 Breanna Callander, #14 Rebecca Leavell) to put the Wolves on their heels. The Thunder were relentless in the opening half playing an aggressive attacking style, and were rewarded with their third goal of the game in the 31' by #2 Beth Crothers.

The 2nd half would settle a bit with the Wolves looking to answer, getting multiple opportunities but unable to convert a goal. As the Thunder rolled to the 3-0 victory, goalkeeper #1 Monica Dickson was outstanding, turning in her 5th clean sheet of the season.

The Kahunaverse Sport Group Players of the Game for the visiting GPRC Wolves was #17 Jaimie Gomery and for the Thunder #7 Kyra Robinson.

The Thunder will close out their regular season schedule tomorrow vs the NAIT Ooks, and have already qualified for the upcoming ACAC Women's Soccer Championships on October 24-26, 2019 hosted by NAIT.
