CUE Secures 4-0 Win Against Lakeland

CUE Secures 4-0 Win Against Lakeland

EDMONTON, AB (October 7th, 2023) – Concordia University of Edmonton welcomed the Lakeland Rustlers this Thanksgiving weekend here at the Jasper Place Bowl. In today's match, the Rustlers proved to be a defensive force, but the Thunder made some key plays resulting in a 4-0 victory.

CUE wasted no time seizing control in the first half, firing in four first-half goals. Abigael Burton initiated the scoring at the 9-minute mark, swiftly followed by Vanessa Pietramala's goal just two minutes later. Breanna Callander and Brooke Lesoway contributed to the tally at the 25th and 30th minutes, respectively. The second half was far more even matched. Lakeland's defense kicked it into high gear and kept CUE from adding to the board. Monica Dickson, CUE's goalkeeper, maintained a clean sheet with three crucial saves. Hayley Fernandes of Lakeland faced relentless pressure, making 13 commendable saves to keep her team in the contest.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #5 Emma Ward with a standout performance from Concordia Thunder and #18 Emily Thomas with some crucial plays from Lakeland. The next home game for the Thunder takes place October 14th against the NAIT Ooks at the Jasper Place Bowl with games at 12/2PM.
