Thunder Home Opener Stopped Short Due to Air Quality

Thunder Home Opener Stopped Short Due to Air Quality

EDMONOTN, AB – On Saturday afternoon the Concordia Thunder were set to host the NWP Wolves on campus for their season opener in front of a full crowd but the game was put to a stop due to poor air quality conditions.

When the whistle blew to start the game there certainly was a haze in the air but it was deemed safe to play. The Thunder took advantage of the home crowd early and set the tone with a goal from Breanna Callandar at the 14-minute mark. Concordia seemed to maintain possession for most of the half and were rewarded for it as #7 Madison Gamache added two more goals for the blue and gold.

Unfortunately, once the whistle blew to end the half it would ultimately be the last time the athletes took the field. The air quality had risen above the Alberta Soccer Association standard and the game was deemed unplayable.

The Thunder are set to play Sunday afternoon against the NAIT Ooks.
