Concordia take down visiting Vikings

EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder (3-1-2) played host to the visiting Augustana Vikings (0-4-0) on Sunday after a hard fought victory on Saturday. The Thunder came away with a hard fought 2-0 victory in 3 degree weather for most of the match.

The first half was a back and forth affair with both teams managing shots on goal as they adjusted for the cold. The Thunder held a slight edge by outshooting the Vikings 7-3 with a late first half goal scored in the 45th minute to give the Thunder a lead heading into the locker room.

In the second half the Thunder started to apply some pressure, but goaltender #1 Lane Anderson kept the Vikings in the game by making some big saves. Concordia scored a late second half goal to put the nail in the coffin during extra time in the 90th minute to walk away with a 2-0 victory.

The Big Kahuna Sport Players of the Game for the visiting Vikings was #17 Ethan Khundslien and for the CUE Thunder #16 Armaan Bhinder.

The next match for the Thunder will be Saturday October 13th against Grand Prairie, while the Vikings will be facing off against Kings on October 5th.
