Rustlers Prevail in Intense Battle Against Thunder

EDMONTON, AB (October 7th, 2023) – Jasper Place Bowl bore witness to a fiercely competitive men's soccer matchup between Lakeland College and Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE). The game unfolded as a captivating battle with both teams relentlessly vying for control. In the end, the Rustlers emerged victorious with a hard-fought 4-2 win.

The match began with intensity as both sides pressed forward, seeking the upper hand. Concordia Thunder's Ahmed Abubaker found the net at the 12-minute mark, with an assist from Jayden Munguia-Scott. Lakeland Rustlers swiftly responded with Ben Siglic's goal at the 21-minute mark, thanks to an assist from Hani Tekheste.

The first half ended in a 2-1 lead for Lakeland College, but the game was far from decided. Lakeland's Kristian Korkis scored an unassisted goal at the 45-minute mark, extending their lead. Rustlers' Hani Tekheste kept the pressure on, scoring at the 53-minute mark with an assist from Jonathan Hessel. Despite Concordia's efforts, Lakeland College maintained its advantage. Samuel Dosumu-Hathrobe sealed the victory for Lakeland College with a goal at the 73-minute mark, assisted by Eric Janzen Roth. The final score stood at 4-2 in favor of the Lakeland Rustlers.

The One Team Sport Players of the game were #11 Hani Tekheste for Lakeland who contributed significantly with a goal and an assist. For the Thunder, #14 Stephane Gnago demonstrated exceptional midfield control and played a vital role in his team's efforts throughout the intense match. The next home game for the Thunder takes place October 14th at 2PM at the Jasper Place Bowl, against the NAIT Ooks.
