Abubaker's Hat-Trick Leads Concordia to Victory Over Northwestern Polytechnic

Abubaker's Hat-Trick Leads Concordia to Victory Over Northwestern Polytechnic

(EDMONTON, AB) To put the cherry on top of Seniors Day, the Concordia Thunder Men's Soccer team secured a resounding 6-0 victory against the Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) Wolves at Millwoods Turf. The match marked the final regular season game as members of the Thunder for graduating seniors Josh Acevedo and Jayden Munguia-Scott.

Concordia started strong, with Ahmed Abubaker leading the charge. At the 16-minute mark, Abubaker, in combination with Jayden Munguia-Scott, found the back of the net, setting the tone for the match. The Thunder continued to press forward, with Abubaker netting his second goal in the 39th minute, this time assisted by Josh Acevedo. The first half ended with Concordia leading 2-0, but they were far from done.

As the second half commenced, Concordia intensified their offensive efforts. Abubaker completed his hat-trick in the 49th minute, assisted by Pepukai Edwin Mapurisa. The Thunder's relentless attack persisted, resulting in goals from Mapurisa in the 59th minute and Carlos Echeverria-Figueroa in the 67th minute. Concordia's sixth goal came in the 75th minute, courtesy of Domenico Marchese, assisted by Acevedo. The match concluded with a commanding 6-0 victory for the Thunder.

The One Team Sport players of the game, presented by Co-operators, were #13 Evan Bedard for NWP and both graduating seniors, Josh and Jayden, for Concordia.

The win wraps up the 2023 season for the team. With this victory, their record to end the regular season finishes at 4-6-2.
