Thunder Badminton 2024/25 Season Preview

Thunder Badminton 2024/25 Season Preview

As the Badminton season is about to begin, the group is looking to build off their stellar 2023/24 campaign. The previous year was highlighted by a ACAC Team Championship as well as a Women’s Singles Gold medal from Jasleen Kaur, leading to a CCAA Silver medal as well for Kaur.

With most of the team returning and Kaur moving into an assistant coaching role, the program is hoping to bring home more banners and medals again this year. Emma Tran is looking to continue building on her successful rookie season in Women’s Singles where she won a bronze medal in the ACAC Championships, while Raphael Motel and Johnny Su are excited to compete for a medal in Men’s Doubles. Newcomers who could be major players for the team are the multi-sport trio of Ava Stach, Lauryn Psutka, and Ella Gifford, joining Thunder Badminton after a successful season with Thunder Golf. The team has been ranked #1 overall in the CCAA Badminton Rankings to start the season, setting expectations for a fantastic year.

“We’re ready to make a statement this season”, added 2023/24 ACAC All-Conference athlete Motel. “Our team has been working hard to be a major player for individual medals and a team championship again this year. We’re ready to give it everything we’ve got to reach our goals.”

Thunder Badminton will compete in their first tournament of the year on Sunday November 17th as they head to SAIT.
