Thunder Curling 2024/25 Season Preview

Thunder Curling 2024/25 Season Preview

Thunder Curling is ready to go and ready to win in 2024/25. The reigning CCAA National Champions in Women’s Curling are back and aiming to capture another ACAC and CCAA championship, this time in the same year.

Women’s Curling has all but one player returning for another run, while the men’s and mixed team will be combining, looking to rebuild their group on the fly with hopes to contend like they did in 2023/24. A key piece returning for Mixed Curling is 2023/24 ACAC Men’s Curler of the Year and Skip Sean Borkovic, looking to lead a new group back to an ACAC final. Third year Anothny Ogg (Second) will join Borkovic, providing a boost to the mixed team that also has returning player Hannah Miller (Third) coming back for her second season. On the women’s side it’s third years Gabby Wood (Skip), Payton Sonnenberg (Third), and Rachel Jost (Lead) all returning. All three of them are coming off seasons where they each received a CCAA tournament first team selection on their way to a national title. With Brenna Bilassy now graduated, Tori Hartwell is stepping in to take over the role of Second.

“We’re so excited to get back on the ice, especially with our new additions to the team. Everyone is very much on the same page of having another great season.” Wood commented.

The curling season kicks off Friday November 22nd as U of A Augustana hosts the first weekend tournament of the year. Look for Thunder Curling to continue their recent success in the ACAC and CCAA.
