Thunder Complete a Weekend Sweep

EDMONTON, AB (January 21st, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder took on the Keyano Huskies for the second time this weekend. This afternoon's game was just as intense as the Friday match going all the way to 5.   

The Huskies came out of the gate strong and gained an 8-2 lead, but the Thunder swing the game on a 12-2 run to lead and finish the first set 25-23. The second set was a back-and-forth ordeal, with each side trading the lead point by point. The Huskies reach 20 points first, but to end the set the Thunder go on an 8-3 run and win 25-23. The Thunder go up two sets to none. The third set was evenly matched. Each serve resulted in outstanding rallies for both teams. Huskies win set three 25-20 to keep themselves in the game. Keyano proved they were hungry for a comeback in the fourth set. We continued to see incredible kills, and digs, with each team doing whatever it takes to come out on top. Huskies pushed their agenda and took the fourth set 25-23, tying the set score 2-2. In the fifth set, the game had everyone at the edge of their seat. There was no way of telling who would walk away with the win this afternoon, but that's what made it such a great game. The Thunder gave it their all and finished the game 15-13 to win the game 3-2 for the second time this weekend.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #15 Karlene Kaminski from the Huskies, with 15 kills and 20 digs in the game. From the Thunder, #4 Emma Derbyshire with an outstanding 52 assists. This weekend each team really showed their skill and perseverance with each game going all the way to a 5th set. The next home game for the Concordia Thunder will be next Friday, January 27th, against the NAIT Ooks at 6 PM.
