One Shot Short – Vikings take the W

One Shot Short – Vikings take the W

EDMONTON, AB (January 14th, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Augustana Vikings to start off the winter semester. With both teams hungry for the win, they played aggressively, and things got rough. That intensity kept the game neck and neck until the final seconds. Vikings ultimately came out on top 84-82.

In the first quarter of the Thunder vs Vikings matchup, CUE finds an early lead by landing some beautiful threes to start. But later in the quarter the Vikings find their footing and gain a lead of their own 28-22. In the second quarter, tensions rose and both teams were in foul trouble, with a total of 8 fouls committed within the first 4 minutes of the quarter. The Vikings continue with their foot on the gas and gain a 12-point lead at one point. Augustana led 49-39 at half time. The third quarter had both teams fighting well and executing plays well. The Thunder fought back to within one as the threes on either side start raining. The score is 66-60 heading into the fourth. The fourth quarter had lots of back-and-forth action, with both teams in foul trouble early. One player from the Vikings fouled out and the Thunder tried to push their way back on top. They went on a run and tied the game up with a minute remaining, but a quick response gave the Vikings back a two-point lead. The Vikings hold off and win 84-82.

Coach Wood comments on the game "Tough battle against a tough opponent tonight. We needed to bounce back execution-wise after a disappointing outing yesterday and we did that. Today we came up 1 shot short but the effort needed was there."

The One Team Sport players of the game were #11 Nic Harder from the Vikings, and #14 Alex MacLean from your Thunder contributing 16 points to the board. A hard-fought battle on both ends kept things exciting through all four quarters. Thunder returns home on January 28th to take on the NAIT Ooks at 8 PM.
