Concordia's Men's Team Storms to Victory in First 2024 Home Game

Concordia's Men's Team Storms to Victory in First 2024 Home Game

(EDMONTON, AB) In their first home game of 2024, the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder Men's Basketball team continued their momentum from an away victory against the Eagles last night. The game unfolded at a rapid pace with immense pressure on both ends, resulting in a high-scoring and exciting matchup. The Thunder showcased their offensive strengths, securing a decisive 104-77 win over the King's University.

The Thunder set the tone early, finishing the first quarter with a 32-21 lead. Yaadvir Dhaliwal led the charge with an impressive 18 points, connecting on four three-pointers. The fast-paced and dynamic gameplay from both teams set the stage for an intense battle.

Concordia extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the King's Eagles 28-18. Mirza Todorovac emerged as a key contributor, showcasing his scoring ability with six three-pointers, adding 27 points to the Thunder's tally. The Thunder's defensive efforts and efficient scoring allowed them to control the game heading into halftime.

The fast-paced action continued in the third quarter, with the Thunder maintaining their dominance. O'Ryan Wallace and Nick Gibb displayed versatility, contributing both offensively and defensively. The Thunder added 30 points to their lead, creating a substantial gap between the two teams.

The final quarter saw the King's University putting up a strong fight, but the Thunder's early lead proved insurmountable. Concordia closed out the game with a 104-77 victory. Kudos to the King's Eagles' Cornelius Mingo Jr., who finished the game with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Head Coach Reagan Wood commented on the win saying "Solid team win for us today. We were able to move the ball and hit shots. Still work for us to do at the defensive end but happy with the outcome. Kings is a young team but they have some dangerous guys that we needed to keep in check a bit better. A big congratulations to Nick Gibb on passing the 1000 point mark today for his ACAC career. I've loved coaching Nick and so happy he was able to acheive this for his career!"

The Thunder men's basketball team will carry this momentum into their next game as they head on the road to play the NWP Wolves on January 19th and 20th. After this impressive win, their current record stands at 6-6 for the season.
