Bio

Head Coach Reagan Wood is in his 10th season (2012 - Current) as the head coach of the Thunder Men’s Basketball program and his 15th year overall after five seasons (2007-2012) as an assistant.

Coach Wood received ACAC North Coach of the Year honors in his first season as the head coach in 2012-13. The following year (2013-14) he would lead the Thunder to a silver medal performance at the ACAC Championship, earning the program’s first ever trip to the CCAA National Championship where they would finish 7th. While there, the team would be awarded the 2014 Duncan McCallum Fair Play Award as the most sportsmanlike team at the tournament. In 2016-17, Coach Wood was named ACAC North Coach of the Year for a second time after guiding the Thunder to a 20-4 record claiming the regular season division title. Along with his ACAC Coach of the Year nod in 2017, Coach Wood was nominated for CCAA National Coach of the year for the first time. 2018-19 and 2019-20 would see the Thunder claim two more North division regular season titles, a bronze and silver medal respectively along with two more ACAC Coach of the Year awards and nominations for CCAA Coach of the Year.

In his 10 seasons leading the program Coach Wood has amassed a 123-64 conference record, best in the North Division over that time frame.

Coach Wood is also actively involved in the local and provincial basketball scene working for Alberta Basketball, coaching teams and programs along with office duties that include the coordination of NCCP Coach Education activities. He has served as an assistant or head coach for 6 years in the Fall Development Programs (Centre for Performance, TAS and Academy programs) along with two summers as an assistant with the 15U Boys Provincial Team helping them to 5th and 6th place finishes at the Canada Basketball National Championships in 2015 & 2016 respectively. In 2018, Coach Wood was the Head Coach of the 15U Team Alberta Boys squad to a 4th place finish. Coming up in the summer of 2022, he will be leading the 18U Alberta Boys team to the Canada Summer Games as the Head Coach.
