A Strong Comeback Keeps Thunder Undefeated

A Strong Comeback Keeps Thunder Undefeated

EDMONTON, AB (November 18, 2022) - The first-place Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the Ambrose Lions to the Ralph King Athletics Centre on Friday night. The Thunder topped the Lions 77-67 to move to a perfect 6-0 and remain undefeated on the season.

In the first quarter, the Ambrose Lions came out of the gate roaring landing three-point shots all over the Concordia Thunder. The Lions take an early 12-point lead in the first quarter and are up 17-13. The Thunder struggles to find their footing leaving themselves down by three at the half, 37-34. After the half, we saw Kaelyn Bryks start to catch fire. The Thunder roll out all the rebounds left and right for Bryks. She was raining three after three to bring the Thunder up by eight points, leading 55-47. In the last quarter, Thunder came alive. CUE was able to push their lead up to 20 at one point, but the Lions pushed back near the end to lose by 10 with the final score landing 77-67.

Head Coach Robbie Valpreda looks back on what could have been their first loss of the season and states "We didn't come out of the gates in the first 20 minutes of the game, but regrouped at the half defensively, and discussed playing with more energy. Kaelyn Bryks proved herself a strong team leader and took what the team discussed to get the team back on track".

The One Team Sport players of the game were #23 Kamsiyochi Ogbudibe from the Lions, a strong defensive game for #23 and 14 points in the night. From the Thunder, #9 Kaelyn Bryks, a well-deserved title for her efforts tonight, leading the team offensively with 27 points.

The next home game for the Thunder takes place tomorrow afternoon, November 19th, against the Lethbridge Kodiaks at 1 PM.
