A Defensive Game holds Thunder to a 20 Point Lead

EDMONTON, AB (November 25, 2022) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder welcomed the Kings' Eagles in a battle of Edmonton for their final home game of the fall semester. The Friday night battle had both teams hungry for the win, but Thunder came out on top and finished the game 65-45.

During the first quarter, we saw both teams slowly finding their rhythm. The score reflected this struggle and finished the first 15-9 for CUE. In the second quarter, we saw most points coming from inside the paint for both teams. Thunder led by 10 at the half. In the third quarter, both teams started to find their range. The Eagles had the three-pointers to their advantage, but CUE Thunder outscored TKU in the paint with a number of layups. The Thunder pushed the lead to 20 and finished the 3rd 46-26. Moving into the fourth quarter, Thunder defense came out strong and allowed them to keep a healthy 20-point lead. CUE finished the game and continues undefeated, 65-45. Head Coach Robbie Valpreda comments "We played hard at times and with individuals out we had to adjust to some new lineups. In the last 20 minutes I thought as a team we played better defensively."

The One Team Sport players of the game were #10 Casey Belway from the Eagles, with 12 rebounds in the game and a total of 7 points. From the Thunder, #2 Jenna Rinsky with 16 points in the night, we truly saw her come to life and step up as a team leader with tonight's line changes.

That concludes Thunder's home schedule for the fall semester. CUE takes on the Eagles for round two tomorrow evening at King's University. We look forward to returning from the break and watching the Thunder Women's Basketball team continue their incredible season, on January 14th, 2023, against the Augustana Vikings.
