Weekend Recap - Week 13

Week 13 of the ACAC season was the final week of games for the fall semester. Thunder Basketball and Volleyball were the only teams playing this weekend as all other teams were done until January. Here’s what happened last week:
Basketball
Thunder Basketball was on the road this past weekend, playing the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks on Friday and the SAIT Trojans on Saturday.
For Women’s Basketball, Friday vs. Lethbridge saw the Thunder jump out to an early 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Kodiaks pushed right back in the second quarter taking a 39-32 lead into halftime. The back and forth battle continued as the Thunder outscored the Kodiaks in the third quarter but still trailed 50-47. Lethbridge held on in the fourth quarter, ultimately taking the game 73-66. Chloe Sutherland continued to be big for the Thunder, putting up 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. On Saturday vs. SAIT, the Trojans offence started on fire and never looked back. After getting out to a 42-13 lead in the first half, it was more of the same in the second half, as the Trojans beat the Thunder 80-38.
On the men’s side, it was a similar back and forth back in the first half against Lethbridge on Friday. Lethbridge led after the first quarter 19-12 but Concordia fought back to have the 34-30 lead going into halftime. The Kodiaks took over in the second half of the game, outscoring the Thunder 46-32 and taking the game 76-66. Saturday’s game vs. SAIT was another loss for the Thunder as they fell to the Trojans 86-67. Similar to the women’s game, it was a big offensive performance for SAIT, who outscored CUE 34-15 in the first quarter. Though the Thunder came back in the second quarter, SAIT continued to press, outscoring Concordia in the third and fourth quarters to seal the game. Milton Lendein was a standout for the Thunder, scoring 14 points and adding a team high 8 rebounds.
Both teams will now have the month of December off from regular season play as they head into the holiday break. They’ll get back to work in January when they travel to Fort McMurray for two road games against the Keyano Huskies on the 10th and 11th. Their first home games of the winter semester will be on January 17th when they host the Lakeland Rustlers. Men’s Basketball is currently sitting 4th in the ACAC North Division with a 5-5 record.
