Weekend Recap - Week 5

Week 5 of the ACAC season saw only Thunder Soccer in action, with 3 games for each team throughout the week. Here’s what’s happened this past week:
Soccer
Thunder Soccer had a grind of a week with 3 games in 5 days, facing the Portage College Voyageurs at home on Wednesday, traveling to Portage for a road game on Saturday, and then back at home to play a big rivalry game against the NAIT Ooks on Sunday.
Women’s soccer kept their perfect record intact, winning all three games this week defeating the Voyageurs 15-0 in game one, 12-0 in game two, and winning the rivalry game against NAIT 2-0 to round out the week. With 29 goals scored between the three games, there were many outstanding performances. Vanessa Pietramala continued her quest for a second ACAC and CCAA player of the year, scoring 7 goals and adding 6 assists to her total. She had a hat trick in both games vs. Portage as well as contributing with a goal and an assist against NAIT. Makkayla Agar got herself on the scoresheet for the first time this season, scoring a hat trick in game one vs. the Voyageurs and adding another goal in game two. Angelina Saporito also had three goals and one assist on Wednesday continuing to add to her point total. Sunday’s game against NAIT saw Emma Derechey get her first goal of the season, and the game winning goal, on a header off a corner kick. After this weekend, the women’s team has officially clinched a spot in the ACAC Women’s Soccer Championships held in Grande Prairie. The group’s record is now 9-0, good for first in the North Division.
Thunder Men’s Soccer finished their three game week with a record of 1-2. Losing 1-0 to Portage in game one, defeating the Voyageurs 3-1 in game two, and falling to NAIT on Sunday 3-1. There were multiple goal scorers throughout the week with Carlos Echeverria, Hamza Abderemane, Pedro Vieira, and Duke Naylor all scoring a goal. Goalkeeper Rosty Leha got his second win of the season in net, making 7 saves on 8 shots on goal. The team currently has a 3-5-1 record and sits in fifth place in the North Division.
Going into the Thanksgiving weekend, both teams will have a home game on Sunday October 13th at Strathcona Athletic Park against the Keyano Huskies.
