Weekend Recap - Week 6
Week 6 of the ACAC season was packed with Soccer and Cross Country. Here’s what happened in both sports over the weekend.
Cross Country
Thunder Cross Country traveled to Camrose for the final Running Room Grand Prix of the regular season.
Women’s Cross Country finished 4th overall as a team. Ashlee Walker continued her stellar season with another podium finish in the 6km race. Individually, Walker finished in second place with a time of 25:06. Men’s Cross Country finished 6th overall as a team with Markus Boland again leading the way for the Thunder men in the 8km run, finishing in the top ten with a time of 30:45. Boland, along with Jason Kwong and Elkan Ekhator all finished the race with personal best times.

The final test for Thunder Cross Country will be happening on Saturday October 26th, as they travel to Calgary for the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships hosted by St.Mary’s University. The team is looking forward to pushing for another championship.
Soccer
Thunder Soccer had only one game this weekend as they played host to the Keyano College Huskies. Women’s Soccer continued their win streak, beating Keyano 2-1 and pushing their perfect record to 10-0-0. It was a big game for goalkeeper Madison Kempster, as she made 7 key saves to hold the Huskies at bay. Abigael Burton was the big point getter for the Thunder on this day, scoring the first goal of the game and chipping in with an assist on goal number two. Sherlyn Melendez had the game winning goal for the Thunder, scoring in the 84th minute. It was a tough game for Men’s Soccer as the team fell to Keyano 6-0. The Huskies, who are now 8-1-1, continue to sit in first place in ACAC North Division and first overall in ACAC Men’s Soccer.
Going into the final week of the regular season, both teams will travel to The King’s University for a Saturday game against the Eagles followed by their final home game of the year against the Lakeland Rustlers on Sunday. Women’s Soccer has now officially cliched first place in the ACAC North with the win this past weekend. Men’s Soccer has a record of 3-6-1, now in fifth place in the ACAC North Division.
