Thunder Women's Basketball 2024/25 Season Preview

Thunder Women's Basketball 2024/25 Season Preview

Thunder Women’s Basketball has a new look going into the 2024/25 season as former head coach Robbie Valpreda has moved over to the Men’s Basketball program as their head coach. Donald Finlayson has been brought on as the new head coach of the Women’s Basketball team and is looking to continue with the development of a group who is a regular contender in the ACAC Championships. “We’re really excited to get going this season. We’ve got a phenomenal group of veterans coming back this year along with a strong young core. We’re looking forward to getting on the court and all we can accomplish” said Finlayson.

Returning players Jaycee May, Hayley Cleland, and Chloe DeKlerk will lead a group with some big changes back into the playoffs for the third year in a row. The biggest change on the court will come up front, where forwards Hannah Mitchell and Rachel Harvey are no longer with the team. Second year Lily Anderson is poised to take the next step as minutes have opened up for her to develop further as the next dominant forward in the ACAC.

The program is welcoming 7 first year players into the fold. With minutes up for grabs, the new recruits can make a name for themselves early this season. Rookies Grethe Winchell, Megan Jetzke, and Julianne Baker look to get in right away to make an immediate impact.

“We’re going to surprise teams,” Starting guard Jaycee May noted. “This year we have a great mix of vets and rookies who are all looking to get this program its first playoff win in over a decade.”

The basketball season begins at home on Friday October 18th, as the Thunder go up against St. Mary’s University.
