Thunder Struck!

Saturday evening, the Concordia Thunder Hockey team faced the Portage Voyagers at Clareview Arena in Edmonton. The first goal was scored in the first period at 4:13 by Concordia's Tyler Benko on a power play. He was assisted by Cory Santoro and Adam Wheeldon. The second goal of the game came in the second period (4:52) off of a power play as well. It was scored by Concordia's  Ben Sowa and assisted by Adam Wheeldon and Jordan Busch.  

 

The majority of the goals came in the third period. Portage Voyagers scored their first goal at  18:54 off of a power play.  Concordia's Scott Allan was serving a ten minute penalty at the time. Goal was scored by Max Robitaille and assisted by Ryan Symington and Benjamin Parent. At 7:28 Concordia's Phil Dillon scored a unassisted Shorthanded Goal on Dennis. With little time on the clock Portage pulled their goalie and came back with another goal (00:17). It was scored by Toby Shattler  and assisted by Jon Stephansson and Max Robitaille. Unfortunately for the Voyagers Concordia's Adam Wheeldon scored on the empty net with 7 seconds left on the clock. The final score was 4-2 For Concordia Thunder.

 

Shots on net were pretty even through out the entire game however Concordia did significantly better in the second period with 11 over Portage's 4. Concordia's Tanner McCorrison  and Portage's Ben Dennis were starting and only goal tenders during the match.  The two teams will face off in the new year on January 19th and 20th.
