Thunder Victory against the Kings

Thunder Victory against the Kings

EDMONTON, AB (February 25th, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Red Deer Kings for the final weekend of the regular season. The battle against the Kings was intense, but Thunder came out storming and was able to maintain the lead throughout all three periods. The game was physical throughout with a ton of opportunities on each end, but Thunder will walk away with the victory 3-2.

In the first period, CUE came out strong offensively with #28 Grayson Reid locking in the lead less than two minutes in. We saw a ton of action in the offensive zone and Reid capitalized on their first powerplay opportunity pushing the lead to 2-0 for his second of the game. In the second period, tensions rose giving each side multiple powerplays. The Kings played with control and had many short-handed opportunities throughout. RDP looked to even things out with #34 Dylan Esau scoring their first of the game, making it 2-1. Red Deer took a couple of back-to-back penalties and #7 Keegan Tiringer of the Thunder scored on the power play and extend the lead 3-1. Throughout the third period, the game's fast pace continued along with the intensity. The Kings battled back and after multiple outstanding saves by #30 Griffin Bowerman, they were finally able to get one through on the powerplay, and #73 Haydon Clayton keeps them in the game with 6 minutes left to play. They pushed hard, but Thunder goalie a brick wall tonight, able to maintain their lead and CUE wins 3-2.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #73 Haydon Clayton for the Kings with the third period goal tonight. From the Thunder, our graduating athletes #6 Isaac Tkachuk and #7 Keegan Tiringer, outstanding performance from the both of them. Tonight concludes the regular season for your Concordia Thunder, but they aren't finished yet! Stay tuned for more information on playoff games this week.
