A Strong Comeback and OT Winner

A Strong Comeback and OT Winner

EDMONTON, AB (January 20, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder took on the NAIT Ooks for their first home game of 2023. The game was filled with back-and-forth action on each side. They exchanged the lead throughout the game, pushing the decision to overtime. Thunder pushed hard offensively and finished things early into overtime, winning the game 6-5.

In the first period, Thunder opened up the scoring early on with team captain #8 Brandon Wallis capitalizing on opportunity and scoring unassisted. The Ooks respond quickly as #16 Keaton Holinaty ties things up within 2 minutes. CUE looked to regain the initial lead and was able to put two more on the board with #19 Zach Carlson, and #16 Hunter Leslie pushing the Thunder to a 3-1 lead. The Ooks did not back down in the 2nd period as they completely took control, scoring 4 goals, two by #19, #16, and #26. Lots of odd-man rushes from NAIT, while Thunder struggled to convert.

In the 3rd period, the Thunder came back hungry and was relentless in the offensive zone. CUE took back control with #9 Krz Plummer and #39 Alex Marrocco tying things up and pushing it to OT. Thunder complete the comeback and hold on to score in overtime, with the game-winning goal scored by #28 Grayson Reid.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #11 Bryce Oswpchuk with 4 assists in the game and #28 Grayson Reid with 2 points from the Thunder. They will face the Ooks again tomorrow night at the NAIT Arena for game two of the weekend. Thunder returns home after a break on February 4th against the SAIT Trojans.
