Thunder Rolls Over the Clippers

EDMONTON, AB – The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder (4-7-1) rolled the visiting Briercrest Clippers (2-8-1-1) 9-3 on Saturday night with a big 4 point night from Tyler Benko, avenging the 4-2 loss from the night before.

In the first period, the Thunder came out of the gate on the offensive, firing 16 shots at Clippers goaltender Dan Dekoning. Dekoning kept Briercrest close, only allowing the Thunder to score twice (Tyler Benko & Ben Sowa), with the Clippers adding a last second goal by Joshua Mitton to end the first period at 2-1.

The Thunder opened up their lead in the second period with five unanswered goals, taking a 7-1 score into the locker room after 40 minutes of play. The Thunder received goals from five different players to spread the offense around (Adam Moghrabi, Chase Fallis, Matt Benko, Cory Santoro, and Rory Davidson), leading the Clippers to replace their goaltender with rookie netminder Korlan Vader mid-way through the period.

Chase Davidson would try to answer for the Clippers in the third period with two goals of his own, though the Thunder cancelled those out with two more goals, with Moghrabi netting his second of the night and Chance Thomas adding the other marker to give the Thunder a 9-3 win.

The Big Kahuna Sport Players of the Game for the visiting Briercrest Clippers, #27 Chad Davidson, and from the Concordia Thunder, #9 Matt Benko.

The Thunder will wrap up the first semester next weekend with a home and home series against the University of Alberta, Augustana Vikings. The Thunder host the Vikings on Saturday November 25 at the Clareview Arena where the puck is set to drop at 8:15 PM.
