Vikings Take the Lead with 3-1 Victory Over Thunder

(EDMONTON, AB) – November 4, 2023. In an exciting contest at Clareview Rec Center, the University of Alberta-Augustana emerged victorious, defeating the home team, Concordia University of Edmonton, with a final score of 3-1.

The UAA Vikings started the game with a bang, as Jayven Leslie opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the first period. He was assisted by Leyton Smith and Ben Stollery, setting the tone for the visitors. The second period saw tight defensive play, with no goals being scored by either team.

The Thunder mounted a comeback in the third period, with Zachery Carlson finding the back of the net at the 8:43 mark, thanks to an assist from Isaac Leik. The home crowd was hopeful, but the Vikings had other plans. Ben Stollery extended the lead with a goal at 9:12, and Jaxon Georget sealed the victory with an unassisted goal at 18:32.

Standout performances included Jayven Leslie for the University of Alberta-Augustana, who scored the opening goal, and Ben Stollery, who not only found the net but also contributed an assist. For Concordia, Thunder rookie, Ashton Billesberger, had another stellar performance in net, making 34 saves to keep them in the game. The Vikings secured a 3-1 win after sealing the deal with an empty-net goal with 1 minute remaining.

Concordia will look to bounce back in their next game, while the University of Alberta-Augustana will aim to build on this win. After this game, Thunder's record stands at 1-5. They'll head on the road for next weekend's matchup against the Briercrest Clippers. The next home game will be on November 17th against the RDP Kings.
