Thunder Fall Short Versus the Trojans in Final Game of 2023

(EDMONTON, AB) In the final home game of 2023, the Concordia Thunder Men's Hockey Team faced a formidable challenge against the SAIT Trojans, ultimately falling short with a final score of 5-2.

The first period saw both teams fiercely contesting possession and displaying solid defensive structures. The goaltenders stood tall, denying every scoring opportunity that came their way in the period. The deadlock persisted until the second period, which witnessed a sudden burst of offensive action.

Concordia Thunder's Grayson Reid emerged as a key player during the second period, finding the back of the net twice. However, the Trojans swiftly responded with goals from Zach Huber and a power-play marker courtesy of Brett Trentham. The pace of the game intensified, with numerous penalties handed out to both teams throughout the period. The second period ended with the game tied 2-2.

As the teams entered the third period, SAIT seized control of the game. Dylan Clark and Tanner Sidaway extended SAIT's lead with well-executed goals. Concordia, determined to stage a comeback, fought valiantly, but SAIT's Andrew MacLean remained resolute in goal, making crucial saves. Despite the Thunder's resilience, they couldn't bridge the gap, leading to a 5-2 victory for the Trojans.

Concordia Men's Hockey now heads into the winter break with a record of 3-9. The team remains focused and ready to get off to a hot start in the new year. Their next home game will be on January 20th, as they take on the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings at Clareview Recreation Centre.
