Concordia Defeat Portage College 4-2 and Clinch a Playoff Spot

The Concordia Thunder delivered an impressive performance on home ice, securing a 4-2 victory against the Portage College Voyageurs in a matchup with massive playoff implications.

In the first period, it was Concordia who drew first blood with Seth Summers scoring an unassisted goal at 4:36 in the first period. The fast-paced period ended at 1-0 for the Thunder.

In the second period, the intensity ramped up as Portage College quickly responded with a goal from Karsten Gorrill at 16:56. However, Concordia regained the lead just under two minutes later with Zachery Carlson finding the back of the net, assisted by Rylan Nivon. Hunter Leslie extended the Thunder's lead with a goal at 13:07, continuing to put pressure on the Voyageurs to respond. Portage pushed back, as Carter Yarish managed to narrow the gap with a goal at 7:03, keeping the score at 3-2 Thunder going into the third period.

As the game entered the final period, the Thunder maintained their composure, killing off a 6 on 4 advantage for the Voyageurs. Zachery Carlson sealed the victory with an empty net goal at 2:24, securing the win for CUE.

The Thunder's victory officially cliches them a spot in the ACAC playoffs. Concordia's next matchup will be their final of the regular season against SAIT on Friday, February 23rd. As it is the final game of the regular season, the team will be honoring their graduating seniors as they finish their career with the Thunder. With this win, their current record stands at 7-15, good for sixth in the ACAC standings.
