Thunder Fall to Voyageurs

Thunder Fall to Voyageurs

EDMONTON, AB (February 11th, 2023) - Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder hosted the Portage Voyageurs in a Saturday night clash. We saw tons of back-and-forth action, with CUE taking the lead early in the game, but Portage battled back and found key scoring chances to take the lead and win the game 7-3.

In the first period, we saw each team playing deep in the offensive zone. #28 Grayson Reid opened up the scoring for the Thunder and put them up 1-0. Not long after, Voyageurs #18 Ty Budai, finds an opening and breaks away two on one, finding the back of the net and tying things up early. Thunder responds quickly to this and #27 Tyler Schendel, puts CUE back on top within a minute. Near the end of the first, Voyageurs are able to even things out and we head into the second period 2-2. In the second period, Thunder held the majority of puck possession, but Voyageurs capitalized on multiple opportunities and score 3 goals in the second. Thunder was able to shorten the lead and #7 Keegan Tiringer scores one to finish off the second 5-3 for Portage.  CUE fought aggressively to come back but again lost on the counterattacks. The Voyageurs played strong offensively and kept Thunder out of their zone. They add another 2 goals to the board in the third and win the game 7-3.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #2 Liam Visram for the Voyageurs and #2 Brant King for the Thunder. The next home game for the Thunder takes place February 17th against the Augustana Vikings, at the Clareview Rec Centre at 7 PM.
