A battle to the very end – Thunder takes the win in their home opener vs the Vikings

EDMONTON, AB (October 14th, 2022) – The Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder opened their home schedule with a Friday night battle against Augustana Vikings. Vikings led the first two sets, and the Thunder fought their way to a 3-2 win in their first home game.

Fans from both teams energized the gym in this back-and-forth battle. Vikings took the lead after first set 25-18. Thunder pushed back and forced the second set to a 26-28 decision for the Vikings. In the 3rd set we watched Thunder gain their footing and make their way back in the game taking the set win 32-30. In the fourth set Vikings fought to end the game but Thunder tied the game winning the set 25-18. The fifth set was where we truly saw both teams hitting their peaks, but the Thunder came capitalized on opportunities and took the set 15-12 making the final score 3-2 Concordia.

The One Team Sport players of the game were #17 Devon Nazarchuk for the Vikings and #16 Rhees Moss from the Thunder. The Thunder will return home on November 4th to take on the Briercrest Clippers.
